Emerson Lake & Palmer                EMERSON, LAKE & PALMER         ELP

* THE ISLE OF WIGHT

29aug70    CD(r)    9.5    The Isle Of Wight Pop Festival

A great recording of one of the first ELP's  performance. It was claimed as being the first (definitely wrong) and (even by the band themselves) as the second.
However, I have found the following dates, previous to this where they also played: 23ug, Plymouth, 26aug, London, 28aug, Croydon), thus making this their fourth appearance.  (Note: In the Manticore Vaults series, vol.1  there's a poster announcing the Plymouth show).
The show at the famous Isle Of Wight festival was not all that long but it does feature a 35min version of 'Pictures At An Exhibition', including the (beautiful!) guitar part from Greg Lake that was omitted at later performances. The ´instrumental´ is ´The barbarian´.
As a bonus there's an interview with the band talking about their appearance at this festival.
Part of this performance I also have on video.

Tracks:
Instrumental / Take A Pebble / Pictures At An Exhibition / Rondo / Nutrocker / Interview

* HOLLYWOOD BOWL (71)

19jul71            CD    8.5       Hollywood bowl, LA

Includes a 20+ min version of "Rondo" with drum solo.

Tracks:
The Barbarian / Take A Pebble / Tarkus / Knife Edge / Rondo / Nutrocker

* THE MANTICORE VAULTS  Volume 1 (71-72)

1sep71,21apr72,28jul72,13aug72      7CD        7.5-8.5      New York, Louisville, Long Beach, Saratoga Springs

First of a series of box set containing no less then 4 shows.
Sound differs from show to show.  These recordings have been available on bootlegs before (from the vinyl days), but now have been collected into a CD box set. The liner notes suggest with approval from the band and although I couldn't verify the latter, it seems legit.

"Tarkus" from New York contains a few bars from Fleetwood Mac´s "Oh Well". "Knife Edge" features bars from Bach´s Brandenburg concert. "Rondo" has a long drum solo. The last two songs ("Piano Interlude" and "Hoedown") are from 11dec71, Birmingham and have speed problems.

The Kentucky show includes a rare occurrence of "Abando´s Bolero" and some awesome (and long) versions of "Rondo"..
Great collection!

10feb74, 1977,2oct92,mar93         5CD        8.5 / 9.5      Anaheim, Wheeling, London, LA

Third in the series of box sets with 2 complete shows and mixed tracks from two shows in 1974 and 1977.  All are soundboard recordings. These recordings have been available on bootlegs before, but now have been collected into a CD box set. The liner notes suggest with approval from the band and although I couldn't verify the latter, it seems legit.
The first disk features songs from two show, but it's not clear which are  from which. Some of these tracks are also cut short.
The second and third disk feature a complete show from 1992 in excellent sound. 'Lucky Man' is with quite a different arrangement where Greg is accompanied with some heavy backup on keyboards and drums.

24jul72      TAPE(2gen)      7.5      Koushien Stadium, Nishinomiya, Hyougo, Japan

Recorded forKing Biscuit Flower Hower. Not  a complete show but  a complete version of 'Karn Evil 9' (33min!)  in great sound.

* KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR (77 / 74)

12nov77, 7mar74        2CD        10(!)             The Coliseum, Wheeling / Civic Center, Tulsa

From the famous radio show very, very good sounding disks! Disc 1 is from 1977 up until "Fanare". The remainder of Disc 1 (from "Hoedown") and "Karn Evil 9" on disc 2  is from 1974. The second disk also comes with some extra multi-media tracks (videos).
I am a bit confused about the exact date for the 1974 part. This disc clains it´s from Tulsa, 7mar74 however other sources indicate the KBFH was recorded on 10feb74 at Anaheim (see above).

Not sure where this comes from, but it may be another incarnation of the "smash the piano" (Anaheim 74) bootleg, albeit with the tracks in a different running order.
