CD 9 ?
A collection of songs from different gigs. Most
in very good sound quality and excellent stereo.
Tracks;
High Flying Bird / Today / She Has Funny Cars / Don't Slip Away /
Plastic Fantastic Lover / 3-5 of A Mile In Ten Seconds / Ride /
Get Together / It's Not A Secret / Somebody to Love / The Other
Side Of Life / White Rabbit
* THE GOLD COLLECTION
?
CD 8.5-9.5 ?
A collection of songs from all different
sources. Some are the plain studio version, others are live recordings.
There's however no info whatsoever as where these were recorded..
Judging from the titles, the second CD looks like it contains some rare
tracks, but it doesn't. The songs "You're So Loose", "What You're
Asking", "Would You Love Me" and "Ride" are not even by Jefferson
Airplane but by a band call 'Steel Riders' (and hardly up to
JA-standards, at least, I don't like them).
Although this is a double CD, it would have fitted on only
one, since the total time of music is just a mere 63 minutes. Leaving
out the Steel Riders song, there's not really much JA music left.
(well, it was cheap).
Tracks;
CD 1:
White Rabbit / Today / It's No Secret / My Best Friend / Don't Slip
Away / Other Side Of Life / High Flying Bird / Somebody To Love
CD 2:
Plastic Fantastic Lover / 3-5 miles in ten seconds / She Has Funny Cars
/ You're So Loose / What You're Asking / Would You Love Me / Ride /
This Is My Life
* SOMEBODY TO LOVE (GREATEST HITS)
?
CD 8.5-9.5 ?
Another mock-up of several Airplane songs. We
also see out friends 'the steelriders' back again on this one (see 'The
Gold Collection' above).
Most songs are very good sound (and all live). Somehow, 'She Has Funny
Cars' appears twice. The second time titled 'What Do You Want From
Me?'. Both are different recordings, though.
I have NO idea where these recordings are from.
Tracks:
White Rabbit / Somebody To Love / Plastic Fantastic Lover / She
Has Funny Cars / It's No Secret / My Best Friend / Don't Slip Away /
Other
Side Of This Live / High Flying bird / 3-5 of a Mile in 10 Seconds /
You're
So Loose / Would You Love Me / Ride / This Is My Life / What Do You
Want With
Me (She Has Funny Cars) / Get Together / Today

(?)
CD 9.5 The Matrix, San
Francisco
This is a pre-Jefferson Airplane band Mrs.Slick
used to sing in. It contains a great version of 'Sally goes round
roses', 'Somebody to love' and a real spaced out 6 minute psychedelic
version of 'White Rabbit'. I use to have this on vinyl for more then
two decades and now it's out on CD as well. With the benefit of the
absence of pops and cracks and (more important) there are a lot more
songs on
the CD! It sounds like a compilation of two different shows. (Don't
confuse this one with the album 'Born To Be Burned' )
Tracks;
Sally Goes Round Roses / Didn't Think so / Grimly Forming / Somebody To
Love / Father Bruce / Outlaw Blues / Often As I May / Arbitration
/ White Rabbit / That's How It Is / Darkly Smiling / Nature Boy /
You Can't Cry / Daydream Nightmare / Everybody Knows / Born To Be
Burned / Father
* THE SAGE OF SIDNEY SPACEPIG
66-71
CD 10 Matrix, SF, Studio
The first 7 songs are outtakes which didn't make
it to the box-set (With Signe Anderson and Skip Spencer). The last 4
songs are recorded at the Matrix, San Francisco.
Following info is from a web site I found:
Highlights - an alternate, 8 minute plus "And I Like It" from the TAKES
OFF sessions; a 14 minute extended version of "Pretty As
You Feel"; an extended, alternate mix of "Feel So Good" with Joey
Covington's background vocals put back in (adding some welcome warmth
and texture to Jorma's vocal, IMHO); and the Quadraphonic mix of "Song
for All Seasons." In a sense, SPACEPIG is like the great lost JA
drummer album, with numerous tracks spotlighting Spencer, Joey and Skip
Spence. The title track appears to be a Spencer Dryden creation, crazy
like all his band contributions, recorded parallel to the "Would You
Like a Snack?" sessions with Grace and Zappa. (A female voice heard
during the track cheers, "Go, Spencer!") And the live Matrix tracks
which end the album were recorded with Signe
and Skip Spence, the only live tracks I've ever heard by the TAKES OFF
lineup. Good stuff, but I find the CD poorly sequenced and find myself
shuffling it into chronological order with better results. {Tim Lucas}
Tracks:
This Is My Life (alt.take 1966) / Pretty As You Feel (ext.version 1971)
/ Saga Of Sydney Spacepig (ext.version 1969) / Sage Of Sidney Spacepig

A combination of three shows put together on two
CD´s. The Toronto show I believe to be complete but the 26nov66
Fillmore is probably not complete.. From the 27th there are
only two songs.
The nov66 shows are one of the very first featuring Grace Slick.
´White Rabbit´is most likely the oldest available version
by the Airplane.
The Toronto show I have in an incomplete version with slightly better
sound as well.

CD 10 Filmore East, New York
A compilation of two shows from the 3rd and 4th
of may 1968. The sound is just awesome. Contains the obligatory 'White
Rabbit' and 'Somebody To Love' of course, but there are also
some more rare gems on this one: Jorma's 'Star Track', a real good
jamming on Paul's 'Thing' and some more jamming on Donovan's 'Fat
Angel' ("Fly Jefferson Airplane" :-) ). All in all one of the best JA
stuff
I have.
RECOMMENDED!

31may68,14dec70,jul71
CD 10 RCA studios,
Wally Heider studios
This three track CD (but still 30min of music)
came with an italian / english book on the airplane. It's
a CD-sized book from the 'sonic book' collection. (I have another
one on Syd Barret with the title 'Fish Out Of Water').
The three tracks on this CD are very interesting. On 'Spacepig' you can
hear bit of 'Would You like A Snack'. On 'Pretty As You Feel' Carlos
Santana makes a contribution.
Sound is absolutely fantastic!

What looks like a close to complete show.
Unfortunately 'The Ballad ...' cuts out early (Even before the song

To make things up, there's a very nice filler of about 45min or so of
the Copenhagen show.

CD 1:
Won't You Try>Saturday Afternoon / Somebody To Love / Young Girl
Sunday Blues / Wooden Ships / Volunteers / Come Back Baby / The Fat
Angel / Plastic Fantastic Lover / Greasy Heart / We Can Be Together /

* FILMORE EAST (1970 - version 1)
7may70
TAPE(?gen) 7 Filmore
East, New York
Not a complete show. As a matter of fact, it is
from two shows (probably from the same night). The tape was labelled
19may70 but I could find no record of the Airplane having performed at
that date. Judging from the track list I assume it must be from 7may70.
Show starts off with some Hot Tuna Tunes. It is a soundboard recording,
but due to the high generation of the tape, there is some hiss
and the high frequencies are lost.
Tracks:
Side 1:
Winin' boy Blues / New Song (For The Morning) / Mann's Fate / Have You
Seen The Saucers / 3-5th Of A Mile In 10 Seconds / We Can Be
Together / Volunteers
Side 2:

* FILMORE EAST (1970 - version 2)
7may70
TAPE(?gen) 8.5 Filmore

Another version of what seems to be part of the
same tape as mention above. Only this one contains fewer songs but the
good part is, it sounds way better. It's from soundboard but the mixing
isn't particularly good (The voice are very much up front).
Tracks:
Side 1:
New Song (For The Morning) / Mann's Fate / Have You Seen The Saucers /
3-5th of a mile in 10 seconds / We Can Be To Together / Volunteers

This is a real treat! Members of Jefferson
Airplane (and Hot Tuna) together with David Crosby and Jerry Garcia in
the studio. Some songs eventually ended up on their 'solo' albums
but on this tape you can hear the embryonic versions. The sound is
great,
although there is a bit of hiss. Contains the best Crosby recordings
ever
(IMHO) and some great jamming of Jerry Garcia and Jorma Kaukonen.

* SWEET BASIL-TOKYO (Jefferson
Starship) (99)

2TAPE(?gen)
8 Sweet Basil, Tokyo, Japan
From the audience noise it sounds like this was
a show in a very small club with just a handful of people. Perhaps this
is why the performance is only average and a bit uninspired. Also the
sound isn't all that great as on might expect in the nineties.
These tapes contain recordings from two shows in a row. The first being
early at night (19:00-20:00) but is missing the last few songs. The
once that were played are replaced by the same songs from
the Porthsmith show.
The second set (21:30-23:00) can be found on the second tape and is
complete.
